What If God Does Not Exist?
For a moment, let us assume that God—or Bhagavan—does not exist at all. What would happen?
The moment we try to think this way, a strange sense of guilt, or some unknown, almost inexplicable feeling of fear, begins to work inside us. But what if we could step beyond that fear and continue thinking? What would happen then?
Perhaps that very fear would begin to look almost ridiculous and quietly disappear. We might begin to understand that, whether we succeed or fail, we really do have the ability to attempt things that once seemed impossible.
We would begin to see that we are not something fundamentally separate from the rest of life—that we are, in a sense, only a tiny living being, no different in essence from any other creature or life on this Earth. And perhaps there should be no reason for us to consider ourselves fundamentally superior.
We might begin to believe that the countless animals and birds who existed long before us deserve at least as much respect and consideration as we give ourselves—perhaps even the respect we would give to an elder, a guardian, or a being with greater experience. No matter how superior we may believe ourselves to be, every living creature, shaped by its own environment and its own time, may possess forms of intelligence, simplicity, emotion, affection and ability that are equal to ours—or, in some respects, greater than ours.
Reason may tell us that God or Bhagavan cannot exist. Yet the mind may refuse to accept it and continue behaving as it always has.
And then what?
Once these ideas begin to sink in, perhaps we will suddenly think:
“Good heavens! For thousands upon thousands of years, simply through thought, feeling and imagination, have we really created so many Gods and deities of our own?”
And what might we feel at the very end?
Perhaps we will realise that just as it took countless ages for us to bring God into our beliefs, rituals and everyday behaviour, it may take just as long to forget Him.
What a false world we have been living in.
And yet, somewhere along the way, from time to time, something strange may begin to whisper inside us:
“Oh God… if you really are there, it would be so wonderful. Please… stay, won’t you?”

Does God really exist—or not? This is not a new question. Has anyone—science, religion, or philosophy—ever been able to prove it conclusively, without relying on emotional stories, religious sentiments, or ideas that merely appeal to the human mind? Does God actually exist in reality, or does He not?
I have no intention of arguing or debating with any monastery, temple, ashram, religious institution, or anyone representing one. Why? Because they will naturally remain within their own established path and beliefs, and will not be willing to step outside them—or even listen beyond them.
Nor would I choose to discuss this with some extraordinarily learned scholar or a supposedly great intellectual merely because of his knowledge or reputation.
I would rather spend hours, wholeheartedly, with people for whom degrees, academic qualifications, or even formal education mean absolutely nothing—people who possess only one thing that truly matters here: the capacity for reasoning, and the willingness to question even their own reasoning and make it more rational.
